Chet was married to Hazel Hulteen and they had two daughters: Agatha Bang and Roma Peckham. After Hazel died, Chet and his daughter, Roma, lived on their farm outside Buda for a long time. On one of their visits to Staunton, where Agatha lived, Chet suffered a stroke, and, though he lived through it, he never got to return to the farm, where he always wanted to be.
