CATHERINE ELIZABETH "LIZ" BECHER

Funeral Mass for lifelong area resident, Catherine Elizabeth "Liz" Becher will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 18 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the Mass.

A Rosary has been scheduled for Friday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.

Liz was born on March 16, 1924 in Denver, Colo. the daughter of Axel and Anna (Rochford) Johnson. She passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at her residence at the age of 84.

On August 23, 1945, Liz married Richard W. Becher at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cortez. Liz and Dick shared 61 years of marriage. Liz was actively involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, and she also volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at Southwest Memorial Hospital. Liz and Dick together owned and operated two local businesses. L&L Laundry and Dick's Standard Service Station served the Cortez community for many years. Liz was a wonderful cook who loved being with her family. She also enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

Surviving Liz are her children, Katherine Schild and husband, William of Littleton, Colo., Patricia Dillaway of Las Cruces, N.M., Dixie Bradley of Eugene, Ore., Rick Becher and wife, Mindy of Dolores, Carol Pottorff and husband, Dennis of Yellow Jacket, and Barbara Roberts and husband, Kim of Grand Junction, Colo. She also leaves behind her brother, Tom Johnson of Cortez; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Liz was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Becher; and her grandson, Daniel Dillaway.

Memorial contributions may be made in Liz Becher's name to Dolores State Bank. The memorial fund will assist the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
