Dorothy Pence, 91, a lifelong resident of Urbana, died at 10:52 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, in Green Hills Center, West Liberty, where she has resided for the last two years.

She was born in Champaign County on Oct. 11, 1919, a daughter of the late Tennie and Wealthie Stayrook Knotts. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Pence; son David Pence; and two brothers, Richard Knotts and his wife Romola, and Raymond Knotts and his wife Elizabeth.

Survivors include her daughter, Dixie (Don) Hone of Zanesfield; son, H.M. "Mort" (Linda) Pence of Springfield; four grandchildren, Bradley of Springfield, Jeffrey (Tammy) of Douglasville, Ga., and Donnie Hone and Deena Fleeger, both of Zanesfield; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She worked in the cafeteria for the Urbana City Schools and the Grimes EL Co., and volunteered at Mercy Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Cheryl Siegenthaler officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Walter & Smith Funeral Home, Urbana, where visitation is two hours prior. Burial follows in Oak Dale Cemetery.
