LUELLA GERTRUDE HAGGERTY
Luella Gertrude Haggerty, daughter of Andrew and Sarah Alexander departed from this life after an illness of several weeks at the Rosary hospital, Corning, IA. On February 12, 1954, at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Gertrude Haggerty was born on December 9, 1884, near Mercer Center, where she spent her entire life.
On December 14, 1910, she was united in marriage to Jesse O. Haggerty, who preceded her in death in 1947.
To this union were born three children: Opal, Mrs. Florence McKay; Elizabeth, Mrs. Shelburn Means; and Lawrence Haggerty, all of Corning. Survivors include her three brothers, Carmon Alexander of Lenox, Iowa, Ernest Alexander of Kansas City, Kansas and Frank Alexander of Tingley, Iowa; two sisters; Eva Rundlett of Lenox, IA. and Edna McAfee of Davenport, IA; three children, Opal, Elizabeth and Lawrence; two sons-in-law, Florence McKay and Shelburn Means; one daughter-in-law, Mildred Haggerty; four grandsons; Larry Dean and Donald Eugene Haggerty; Harrison Jay and Ronald Dean Means; one granddaughter, Sue Renee Means; three step-granddaughters, Evelyn Schrodt, Betty Westlake and Joyce Kirkpatrick; two step-great-grandchildren; Linda Westlake and Stephen Schrodt; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Gertrude Haggerty united with the Methodist Church in her youth. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, Feb 15, 1956 at 2 PM from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, Iowa with the Rev Thomas Hicks in charge.
Interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery at Corning.
Music for the services was furnished by Esther Roland and John Riegel, accompanied by Kathleen Cook, pianist.
Pallbearers were James O’Riley, Verne Scott, Joe Schafroth, Chas. Reynolds, George Edwards and George Swartz.
