Alvin Getting, the son fo Glenn and Alice (Shaw) getting was born on May 15, 1924 at Sanborn, Iowa.
He attended school in Sanborn and enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WorlWar ll. His boot camp training was at Farragut, Idaho. He served on the USS Kalinn and the USS Star and participated in five campaigns all aboard the Uss Kalinn. The task force received a commendation from President Truman and received the Phiippine Liberation Ribbon witha bronze star for their participation in the last battle with the Japanese Fleet at Leyte Gan Gulf.
Following his honorable discharge, Al returned to Sanborn where he was employed at the O'Brien Co-op Creamery. After leaving Sanborn, he moved to Centerville and worked for High Grade Food Products and the to Plainfield where he manbaged a cheese plant. At Fredricksburg, he managed the Farmers Butter and Dairy and at Hull, he managed the Farmers Co-op Creamery.
After leaving Iowa, Al moved to Parkston, S.D. where he managed a cheese plant. He later relocated at Caldwell, Idaho and became a supervisor of the drying operation of the Dairyman's Creamery.
All died on February 28, 2000 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law; Rodney and Mary Getting of Lincoln, Nebraska, Robin Getting of Sioux City, Iowa, Reid and Lisa Getting of Portland, Oregon, a daughter and son-in-law; Rhonda and Gerred Carrier if Wilmington, N.Y., six grandchildren, a brother;Norman Getting of Sioux Falls, S.D. and a sister; Mrs. Arlin Brandt of Melvin, Iowa.
All was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marvin, and one sister, Joyce.
