John Phares (Faris), a brickmaker or brick layer, was apparently the progenitor of the Phares family in the US and was almost certainly of Scotch-Irish descent. He probably came to this country from the British Isles and was known to have been in the Philadelphia area in the early 1700's. He later moved to Burlington Co., NJ where he spent the rest of his life. John's date of birth has not been proved but he died some time before 20 Sep 1736 when the administration of his will was given to his widow, Mary. An inventory was taken on 24 Sep 1736 but no list of heirs is found in the probate records.
