* Norman Grant Baker, 83, of 814 W 10th Street, died early Sunday morning (March 21, 1999) at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Baker was born Dec. 11, 1915, at Coffeyville, to Orville and Vivian (Coahran) Baker. He attended school in Dearing.

He married Alene Kimbrel on Nov. 29, 1935, at Carthage, Mo. Following their marriage, the couple lived northwest of Coffeyville. They moved to California in 1941, and in 1945, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Baker moved back to California in 1953.

Mr. Baker had worked for Sinclair Oil Refinery and had also owned and operated an automobile repair shop in Indio, Calif. They retired in 1972, and returned to Coffeyville to live on their farm northwest of Coffeyville where they did hay contracting, and Mr. Baker worked for Montgomery County. Mrs. Baker taught school for several years at Longfellow. She was also a substitute teacher for several years.

The Bakers traveled four years throughout the United States, and in 1986, moved to yerington, Nev. While in yerington, Mr. Baker served as coordinator for the Mason Valley Museum. The couple returned to Coffeyville Nov. 1996.

Mr. Baker had been a member of the Dearing Methodist Church; Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M., Coffeyville; Consistery, Ft. Scott; 32 Degree Mason; Mirza Temple Shrine, Pittsburg; Elks Club of Indio, Calif., and the AARP Chapter 1099 of Yerington, Calif., where he had served as president.

Mr. Baker is survived by one son, Michael Baker of Houston; one daughter, Diane Watson of Coffeyville; one sister, Betha Anderson of Coffeyville; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Alene; infant daughter Marie Antoinett; and two brothers.

Funeral services were held today in the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Edgewood Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by Keystone Masonic Lodge.

The family would welcome memorials to go to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
