Marjorie "Marge" Sommers, 82, of La Junta passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center after a 2 year battle with cancer.

She was the second of three daughters born to Theodore and Opal (Travis) Bradford of Chanute, Kansas, all of whom preceded her in death. After graduation from Chanute High School in 1945 she met and married Dean Sommers in 1946. The Santa Fe Railroad relocated them to La Junta in 1948.

While in La Junta she worked for Production Credit Associates and the Santa Fe Railroad until retirement in 1989.

She was one of the charter members of the La Junta Chapter of Business and Professional Women's Association and the Nu Horizons Organization. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and she was very active in the Susanna Circle.

She was an avid golfer and enjoyed music, concerts, plays, having lunch with the Red Hat Ladies, and loved dancing with her favorite partner Dean. She was also a big fan of the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche. Regardless of the endeavor, Marjorie's enthusiasm, heart, faith, and love shined through.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Dean M. Sommers of the family home, two sons, Rodney Sommers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Milton (Sue) Sommers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Amber McDonald and Wade Sommers both of Austin, Texas; Whitney Lazzaro, and Ashley Duncan both of Colorado Springs, four great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Terilynn Russ of the La Junta United Methodist Church officiating.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

The family has requested donations be made to the La Junta United Methodist Church, 601 San Juan Avenue, La Junta, CO, 81050 or Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.
