William F Jaeger was born March 1853 in Germany, and came to America around 1860.

The census shows him living Cuero, DeWitt County, Texas and September 12, 1886 he married Louisa "Lucy" Schiwetz, and they had three daughters, Lucy, Lota & Gladys and five sons, Albert Emil, William (Willie) Rudolph, Charles (Mup), Fred (Pete), & Henry Lee (Nookie) Jaeger.

His occupation was listed as cotton ginner, railroad mechanic and cotton miller/laborer over the years.

Grandpa Jaeger owned a cottin gin in Hochheim in 1928, and purchased a new engine, then in 1929 the Depression hit. Per his grandson, Troy Hoch, he ran this gin for several years, along with Jaeger Brothers Garage, that was owned by Grandpa Jaeger and his oldest son, Willie. The two other sons, Charles "Mup" and Fred "Pete" worked off and on at the garage, also.

It is said that Grandpa Jaeger was a very small man, not five feet tall, but he could fix anything. He had a small shop beside his home, their his grandson, John Jr Hoch, cut his little finger on his left hand off, when it got in the grinder. Floyd, the older brother, was supposed to be watching him, he was four years old when this accident happened.

Lucy's boys, Forest, Floyd, Troy and John Jr spoke often of Grandpa Jaeger, and it appears he kept John Jr quite often when he was too young to work on the farm. Louisa passed away before William, so not much is remembered about her.

We do find Grandpa Jaeger on the 1900 Dewitt County Texas. He is 46 years old and tells the census taker him and Louisa married in 1886.They are living in the Cuero Township in Dewitt County. They are living with their children:
Wm F Jaeger Head M 46 Germany
Louisa Jaeger Wife F 32 Texas
Willie Jaeger Son M 13 Texas
Albert Jaeger Son M 12 Texas
Lucy Jaeger Daughter F 10 Texas
Charley Jaeger Son M 8 Texas
Fred Jaeger Son M 6 Texas
Lottie Jaeger Daughter F 4 Texas
Baby Jaeger Daughter F 1 Texas

After Grandma Jaeger, died in 1918, Aunt Lota raised Henry Lee (Nookie) their youngest son, who was 8 years old when his mother died.

Any of our Jaeger cousins who might read this bio, and can tell us any thing about Albert Emil Jaeger, the second born, we would love to hear from you.
