COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Johnnie Ray York, 75, of Cookeville will be held Wednesday, March 19, at 1 p.m. from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.

Entombment will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 18, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 19, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Mr. York died Saturday evening, March 15, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 17, 1932, in Fentress County to the late Horace and Alice Boles York.

Mr. York was a retired coal miner with the former Clinchfield Island Creek Coal Company and later was a deputy at the Putnam County Sheriff Dept. He was a member of Knights Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

His family includes his wife of more than 55 years, Betty Young York (whom he married January 29, 1953, in Ringgold); two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Barbara York and Steven and Kim York, all of Dallas, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte and Dale Bussell of Shelbyville and Cindy and Randy Loftis of Cookeville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ina Faye (Tootsie) and Will Davis, and Peggy
Ledbetter, all of Wilder; a brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Jo Ann Ledbetter of Jamestown; eight grandchildren, Chris Bussell, Jeromy York and wife Amy, Sarah Sides and husband Chris, Tabitha Boswell and husband Andrew, Josh Loftis, Rachel Bubela and husband Brett, Robert Reynolds and Jason Hamilton; six great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Linda Lislic of Cookeville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Claude Ledbetter.

Pallbearers will be Steven, Jeromy and Rex York, Josh Loftis, Chris Bussell and Harold Simcox.

Revs. Jack Taylor, Roger Cooper and Mike Gillock will officiate the services.
