US Congressman. After attending academies in Orleans, New York and Wellsboro, Pennsylvania he studied law, attained admission to the bar, and commenced a practice in Lawrenceville in 1847. From 1850 to 1856 he was Tioga County District Attorney. At the start of the Civil War he assisted in raising a company of Pennsylvania's 42nd "Bucktail" Regiment, afterwards accepting a Major's commission and assignment as paymaster in the state reserve. In 1863 Ryon moved to Pottsville, where he continued to practice law. In 1878 he was the successful Democratic nominee for a seat in the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1879 to 1881. After leaving Congress he returned to his law practice and became active in several business ventures, including ownership of a flour mill and serving as a Director of the Pottsville Gas Company and President of the Pennsylvania National Bank.
