Elias Barney was born at Sandusky, Ohio, June 5, 1836, and died June 2, 1912, at his home in New Windsor, aged 76 years, 11 months and 29 days. He emigrated with his parents to this state when seven years of age. February 21, 1861, he was united in marriage to Ersula Wilcox. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom, Charlotte, Alic, Nora and Rosa, preceded their father in death. The surviving children are: Almond Barney of Hagerman, New Mexico; William Barney of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota; Mrs. Elsie Morrison, wife of James Morrison, of Wellman, Iowa; Mrs. Mae Adams, wife of John Adams of Pre-emption; Mrs. Nettie Cattenberg, wife of D. H. Cattenberg, of Medford, Oklahoma; Mrs. Floe Mead, wife of Clarence C. Mead, of New Windsor. The mother and all the living children were present at the funeral to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. Mr. Barney had long been a faithful member of the M. E. church. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, June 5, at 10 o'clock form the M. E. church, Rev. Staebler officiating. Burial took place in the Swedona cemetery.
