May Emily (Treen) Mollenhauer (1873-1940) was the daughter of the Reverend John William Treen (1840-1921) and Mary Ann (Bell) Treen (1843-1888). Following John and Mary Ann's marriage on August 24, 1863 in London England, the couple settled in John's hometown in Rugby, Warwickshire, England. May was born on May 1, 1873 in Rugby; the seventh of twelve children. Sometime between May 1873 and November 1875, the family emigrated from England to Toronto, Canada where they remained until about 1885. They then relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The twelve children of John William and Mary Ann (Bell) Treen were: John William (1864->1930), Frederick Saffery (1866-1893), Thomas Charles (1867-<1920), Robert Bell (1868-1903), Mary Ann (1869-1951), Augusta Louise (1871-1914), May Emily (1873-1940) [All born in Rugby, England]; Stephen Leonard 1875->1930), Grace Elizabeth (1878-?),Faith Eliza (1880-1965), Alice Georgina (1882-?), and Rose Winnifred (1884-1967) [All born in Toronto, Canada].

On July 15, 1896 May Emily Treen married Henry James Mollenhauer in the Reformed Episcopal Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. The couple lived all of their married lives in New Jersey. They raised five daughters; Mildred May [Whitten] (1897-1983), Florence Emily [Wilson] (1900-?), Helen Bell [George] (1902-1978), Edna Winifred [Turley] (1904-1984, and Dorcas Edith [Vion] (1906-1984).
