FORT MYERS PRESS, Dec. 22, 1933 - Manker C. Langford, well-known boat captain, died early yesterday morning in a Miami hotel from a heart attack caused by exposure which followed the sinking of his boat between Nassau and Bimini the night before. Langford was rescused by a Nassau-bound schooner and was flown from the British island to Miami in a seaplane. The exact details of the affair could not be learned last night but the report was that Langford accidentally ran his boat onto a sunken reef during the night. The boat and cargo were lost and Langford put out in a small rowboat with the deckhand named Collins. They were picked up late the next day after drifting many hours in the open Atlantic. When Langford was brought to Miami, he was suffering from a partial collapse and was taken to a hotel for treatment before continuing to his home in Fort Myers. Last night friends and relatives of Langford didn't know when his body would be returned here for burial.
The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Langford of Braman Ave; three chldren and two step-children. One brother, Kellum Langford, is living. Older residents will remember that Manker Langford was the son of Uncle Tom" Langfpord, pioneer police officer who died here about 10 years ago.
