He was a member of the school committee, a trustee of the state reform school of Maine, and by appointment by President Lincoln, in 1864, he was the Inspector of Internal Revenue for the district of Maine.
Resigning this office in January, 1866, he removed to Boston to enter the late firm of Rust Brothers & Bird, wholesale druggists.
He has been a member of the school board for Boston for ten years; Representative in the General Court; trustee of the city hospital; Director of the Metropolitan Street Railroad Company; Director of the Blackstone National Bank; Vice-President of the Penny Savings Bank, and Director of the Collateral Loan Company.
