Lyle Thomas Abarr, 68, formerly of 2442 Deborah Dr. SW, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Ill., after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, where friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and an hour before services on Monday. Private inurnment: Linwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Abarr; two sons, Michael (Sheri) Abarr of Ankeny and Steven (Luann) Abarr of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Terri Abarr of Grand Junction, Colo.; six grandchildren, Mitchell West of Grand Junction, Colo., Tiffany Drake of Des Moines, Alishia Drake of Grand Junction, Colo., Christopher and Kelsi Abarr of Ankeny and McKayla Abarr of Cedar Rapids; two stepgrandchildren, Stacy and Ryan Klocke of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Janyce Abarr of Des Moines; and many friends and relatives.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Tom was born the son of Lyle and Lena L. McPherson Abarr on June 3, 1938, in Redding, Iowa. He grew up in Hedrick, Iowa, and graduated from Hedrick High School in 1956. On Sept. 28, 1958, Lyle married Marie E. Sutter at Hedrick. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids. Tom was a truck driver for 42 years, working for BFC Transportation and ABF Freight in Cedar Rapids. Tom retired from ABF on Sept. 30, 1999. He was a member of Teamster Union Local No. 238 and the Eagles Club in Cedar Rapids.
