Willie Dee "Butch" Fancher Jr., 67, a native of Leflore County, Miss., died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at his home in Kilmichael, Miss.
He graduated from Greenwood High School, attended Mississippi Delta Community College where he played football on the ‘61 and ‘62 teams. The 1962 team was state champions. He graduated from Delta State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a former personnel manager for Greenwood Leflore Hospital, had worked as a salesman for Honda and later he was an agent and sales manager for American General Life Insurance Company. He moved to Sardis in 1992, to Fairhope in 2007, and then to Kilmichael in 2009. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Dee and Louis Rebecca Farrish Fancher; a sister, Sandra Williams; and step-father, Wilburn Hitt.
Survivors include his wife, Cookie Fancher of Kilmichael, Miss.; three sons, Edward Gill (Jennie) Fancher of Vail, Colo., Corey Allen (Meghan) Fancher and Jonathan Farrish Fancher, both of Fairhope; two grandchildren, William Burke Fancher and Mary Haven Fancher of Vail; brother, Glenn Hitt of Avalon, Miss.; and three sisters, Lisa Dixon of Clevland, Miss., Wanda Barnett and Suzanne Hitt of Fuqua-Varina, N.C.
Visitation begins at 12:30 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry White officiating and eulogy by Joe Morgan. Burial will follow at Kilmichael Friendship Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Brett Dixon, Tyler Dixon, Lee Winters, Eric Winters, Jason Spellings, Josh McGee, Jake McGee, Todd Thaxton, Harry McGee and Brian Howell. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Morgan, Ronnie Parker, Bobby Howell, Doug Minchew, JoJo Still and Wayne Mask.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
