He was born to Col. Benjamin Fassett (1757-1816) and Hetty Alvah (1764-1845) of Bennington. On 15 Sep 1828 he married Anna Maria Robinson (1811-49), daughter of Capt. Heman Robinson (1787-1837) and Betsey Wadsworth (1789-1835) of Bennington. He was a businessman in Troy, NY from 1820-49 (J. V. Fassett and Co.) His wife and he had 3 children, she is buried at the old First Church Cemetery in Bennington and he moved to Muskegon with his daughter and son-in-law in 1856.
