Mrs. Harriet Montgomery
The funeral of Mrs. Harriet E. Montgomery of Silk Road was held Saturday afternoon in the First United Methodist Church in Shaftsbury, of which she was a long-time member. The Rev. A.J. MacDonald, pastor, officiated and the service was attended by many friends and relatives.
Mrs. Eleanor Lawrence presided at the organ and the soloist was Mrs. Julia Young, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" a favorite hymn of Mrs. Montgomery.
Bearers were Howard Cox, Corwin Elwell, Bernard McDonald, Charles Bollinger, Louis Montgomery and Leo Fay.
A prayer service preceded the funeral held Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. Herbert Lillie. Many teachers representing the Bennington Elementary School system were present.
Burial was in the family lot in Shaftsbury Village Cemetery with the Rev. A.J. MacDonald offering the committal prayers.
Relatives and friends were in attendance from Albany, Syracuse and Lebanon, N.Y.; Rutland, Williamstown, Mass. and the area.
Mrs. Montgomery, widow of Francis D. Montgomery, had resided on Silk Road for the past nine years with her daughter, Mrs. Lillie. Prior to this time she had resided in Shaftsbury.
