Fred Dilts, Sr., 79, passed away February 3, 1944 at the Douglas hospital from a heart attack. Fred William Dilts was born on August 29, 1873 at Zanesville, Ohio. When twelve years of age his family moved to Halstead, Kansas. In 1906 Mr. Dilts came to Wyoming and for a time worked for John Kern on the LaBonte. Later he entered into partnership and ran sheep at Ft. Fetterman. He then took up a homestead near Bear Creek where he continued to run sheep of his own. In 1917 he bought a ranch on the LaBonte. On December 3, 1921, he was married to Elnora Dunkelberger who was a government employee at Washington, D. C. They were married in Chicago and lived on the LaBonte ranch for 17 years, moving to Douglas in 1938. To this union two sons were born, Fred William, Jr., now with the U.S. Army taking special work at a University in Washington state, and John Calvin, who has been assisting his father in the ranching business. Mr. Dilts served four years in the state legislature as a representative from this county. Survivors besides his wife and sons are two brothers, Frank of Newton, Kansas and Paul at Elkhorn River, near Glendo; three sisters, Mrs. John Walker of Norfolk, Va., Ethel Dilts and Mrs. Roy Kesster of Newton, Kansas and 19 nieces and nephews.
