Elizabeth Collins Cranston was born in Virginia, February 2nd, 1841, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. P. Tyler, at Stafford, Kansas, Sunday evening, December 2nd, at 7:45 p.m. at the age of 82 years and 10 months.
While a little child she moved with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Disor from Virginia to Iowa, and late in life with her husband to Kansas.
On the first day of May 1861, she was united in marriage to Wm. Cranston. To this union were born six children; four daughters and two sons, the two sons preceding her in death in infancy.
On January 8th, 1917 her husband passed to his reward and left her alone with her four faithful daughters to fight the battles of life before her, a fight she nobly bore till God said enough and called her to her better reward.
She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters; Mrs. Geo. Adams and Mrs. J. R. Hunt of Blue Rapids, Kansas, Mrs. Joe Adams of Frankfort, Kansas and Mrs. C. P. Tyler of Stafford, Kansas, besides numerous other relatives and a great host of friends.
She was a kind and loving mother, always willing to give all she could and do all she could for the good of those God had entrusted into her tend care. As a neighbor she was tender and sacrificing ready at all times to do unto others as she like to be done to by them.
At the age of thirty years she was united with the Christian Church and after moving to Kansas, there being no church of her choice she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of Blue Rapids, where she remained a faithful member and lived a consistent Christian life till called to unite with the church triumphant.
During her last illness she remained true to her life, never faltering nor complaining, always cheerful; even when physical pain caused her to suffer she cheerfully bore her heavy burden.
Services were conducted at Stafford by the Rev. J. T. Wheller, pastor of the First Christian Church. His text was Hebrews 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God".
Services in Blue Rapids were conducted by the Rev. R. J. Zeidler, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, preaching from Psalm 116:15 "Precious is the death of his Saints", assisted by Mr. Kaump, Mr. Short, Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Wade as singers.
Interment was made in the Fairmont Cemetery in the family lot besides her helpmate Wednesday afternoon December 5th, 1923.
