Choice enlisted in the Confederate States Army on 2 March 1862 in Camilla, Georgia. He was mustered as a private in Company C, 51st Georgia Infantry. He was captured 3 December 1863 near Knoxville, Tennessee and sent to Camp Chase Confederate Prison in Ohio on 15 December 1863 and the entered Rock Island Confederate Prison in Illinois on 6 January 1864. Choice took the Oath of Allegiance on 17 June 1865 at Rock Island Confederate Prison and was released the following day. Information on his release record states he resided in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia. He was described as light complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, 5'9" in height and 21 years of age.
