Mrs. Juanita Lucas Hawks, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010, at the Golden Living Center. She was born June 25, 1941, in Giles County, VA, to the late Walter Harrison and Minnie Leona Davis Lucas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Hawks is survived by her partner, Frank Woodruff of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and James King of Mount Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Lee Hawks, Jr. of Charlotte and Timothy Scott and Melessa Hawks of Dobson; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tabitha and Justin Barnard and Christopher King, all of Mount Airy, Logan Hawks and Lucas Hawks, both of Dobson, Travis and Christie King of Elkin; a great-grandchild, Ellie King of Elkin; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Armenta and Gene Hedgecock of Franklinville, Mary and Bill Wheeler and Loraine and Morris Beckner, all of Narrows, VA, Lillian and Price Overstreet of Roanoke, VA, and Beverly and Ronnie Young of Riner, VA; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Drema Lucas of Grand Canyon, AZ, Donnie and Vicky Lucas and Jean Lucas, all of Christianburg, VA, and Jerry and Bonnie Lucas of Blacksburg, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee "Bobby" Hawks, Sr.; four sisters, Virginia Lucas, Margaret Akers, Betty Draughn, and Helen Olson; and four brothers, Willie Lucas, Curtis Lucas, James "Jimmy" Lucas, and Harvey Lucas. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by Dr. Craig Edwards and the Rev. Bill Spurlin. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
