Mrs. Sadie B. Neff (my gr-grandmother) wrote and published "Living Gems of Verse" a book of poetry which was placed in the Indiana State library's historical department. She was a member of National Poetry Center, Radio City, New York, Rockefeller Center. She was a native of Illinois but lived in Indiana many years both in Connersville and Indianapolis. Her book was dedicated to her 7 grandchildren and to her many friends, young and old, in the hope that it may spread a little happiness and sunshine over a troubled world. Sadie had two children, Mrs. Lucille Lake and Mrs. Kathryn Brown, both of the Connersville - Everton IN area. Many of her descendants still live in this area. Some of the poems had to do with early history of pioneer folk, such as her grandparents, Cornelius and Hannah Mooney Ashworth, who traveled by covered wagon from Mercer Co. VA (now W. VA) to Coles Co. Illinois.

Sadie was the daughter of Louis Alderson Ashworth b. 12-22-1839 and Eliza Ann Rice Ashworth born 3-3-1845 and was one of 12 children.

Married to Charles William Neff on Sunday, April 7, 1900 at her father's home in Mattoon Illinois and then moved back to Connersville.

written by my grandmother Kathryn Brown re: her mother, Sarah Isabelle Ashworth Neff - was nicknamed by her older brothers, Sadiebelle, and had a wonderful memory and a great knack for sewing. She learned to sew so well from her grandmother, Hannah Mooney Ashworth, wife of Cornelius Ashworth. She came from a family of 12 children and had five older brothers who loved to tease her. Whenever possible she went to visit Grandma Hannah who left her a fine thimble in a beautiful case marked with the letter S. The thimble belonged to Hannah's mother, Sarah Stoneman Mooney.

Sadie Ashworth Neff this contributor's (Vivian Brown Brown) gr-grandmother.
