Eugenia Ayer (Merrill) Seamans

BEVERLY, MA — Eugenia Ayer Merrill Seamans, 88, died peacefully at her home in Beverly Farms on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010.
An avid gardener, painter, and calligrapher, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she represented Massachusetts with the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association, serving as Vice Regent for 16 years and as Regent for four years. She was very happily married to the late Robert C. Seamans Jr. for 66 years.
She is survived by her five children, Katharine A. S. Padulo of Philadelphia, Robert C. Seamans III of Beverly Farms, Joseph Seamans of Pittsburgh, May S. Baldwin of Cambridge and West Tisbury, Daniel M. Seamans of Berkeley, Calif.; by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Ann Katharine, predeceased her.
Well-known as a generous contributor to many non-profits, especially environmental, health, and arts organizations, she supported many local enterprises including the House of Seven Gables and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, and the Beverly Farms Library, the Beverly Hospital, Harborlight Community Partners, and River House Inc. in Beverly.
