Obituary, Clarion-Ledger (Jackson, MS), Thu, 3 Sep 1925, pg. 6:

The Passing of Dr. George Wharton in North Carolina

Jackson friends and relatives are saddened by the message which comes from Marsfield, North Carolina, telling of the death of a noble Christian, Dr. George Wharton, who passed away following a lingering illness of two years.

Dr. Wharton was a graduate of Mississippi College and also a member of the faculty and was a classmate of Hon. D. W. Griffith, of Vicksburg, and Prof. P. H. Eager, of Clinton. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Manger, sister of Mr. M. L. Menger of Jackson, and she and a family of children, all grown and married with the exception of a son and daughter, and all these were at the bedside when the end came.

Mrs. R. B. Stapleton, sister of Mrs. M. C. Kethley, perhaps the only Mississippi friend in that part of the country, sent a large floral offering in the Mississippi College colors—a pretty tribute to the memory of this good man who taught Bible at Marsfield just so long as his strength would permit. Mrs. Marie Weathersby, of Crystal Springs, is also a sister to Mrs. Wharton, as is Mrs. Hobbs of Brookhaven, and there are both friends and relatives throughout Mississippi who will deeply sympathize with the this bereavement.
