Emory was a Second Lieutenant during the civil war and served in the First Texas Calvary, Colonel H.E. McCullough commanding.
Emory married Miss Martha Amanda Matlock on August 27, 1865. They have raised a large family. Fourteen children were born to them, five of them dying in infancy.
