Note: John Burton's birth date of 1783, as inscribed on his headstone, may be wrong. In the U.S. censuses of 1850, 1860, and 1870 his inferred birth date is 1787. Only in the 1880 U.S. Census is it inferred to be 1783. There are no other records to be found to confirm his actual date of birth. Since at the time of the 1880 census he was at least 93 years old, it could have been his memory was failing and perhaps his children just didn't know for sure.
