Herman F. Bax, age 85, of St. Elizabeth, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at his home. He was born in Miller County, on March 8, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Hiesler) Bax. On September 6, 1980, in Meta, he married Christine Wieberg Hoeller, who preceded him in death on August 22, 1992.

He is survived by one sister, Clara Schilling of Red Bud, Illinois; eleven nieces and nephews, Dot Schneider and husband Dennis, Sonny Bax and wife Phillis of DeSoto, Lawrence Bax and wife Sharon of Dittmer, Joe Bax and wife Suzy of Lake Ozark, Diane Coleman of House Springs, Cathy Wright of DeSoto, Herman Bax and wife Martie of Arnold, Pauline Vasey and husband Terry of Green City, Carolyn Baros and husband John of Eureka, Ronald Schilling of Freeburg, Illinois, and Richard Schilling and wife Carol of Waterloo, Illinois; and thirty-eight great nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, his twin brother, Henry Bax, who died during infancy and Herbert Bax.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. also on Wednesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. Rev. Daniel Lueckenotte will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in St. Elizabeth.
