Helen BairOttumwa - Helen W Bair, 89, formerly of 1222 N. Adams, died at 7:25pm June 21, 2005, at the Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center.She was born March 17, 1916 near Keswick to Merton and Anna Murphy Bair. A graduate of Keswick High School and Ottumwa Heights College, she received a B.A. from Drake University. She taught in rural schools in Hiteman, Pleasant Plain and Davenport before moving to Ottumwa.She taught in Ottumwa Public Schools for 35 years, having taught at Garfield and many years at Horace Mann, retiring in 1979. She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was presently a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of Americas. She loved traveling, reading and playing cards.Survivors include several cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents.Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney.Visitation will begin 11 a.m. today at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. Christian Wake service.Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Visitation.
