Second Lieutenant Bair was killed piloting
U.S. Army Air Corps B-25C Mitchell #41-13262,
in a mid-air collision with the top of a pine
tree in the front yard of his parents home just
outside the east edge of Thornburg, Iowa.
The impact tore off part of the tail assembly.
The plane continued northwesterly over the town
then crashed and burned within about two miles.

472ND BOMB SQUADRON, 334TH BOMB GROUP,
GREENVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, WORLD WAR II.

Five other airmen also perished:

2nd Lt. Robert J Love
2nd Lt. Robert L Miller
2nd Lt. Roy G Schott, Jr.
S/Sgt. William S Weaver, Jr
Pvt. Robert L Craig
