MRS. THOMAS H. MILNES

With heartfelt sorrow we note the passing away of Mrs. Thos. H. Milnes, which occurred at the family home northeast of Chariton on Tuesday evening, September 18, 1923, at the age of 62 years and 24 days, after an extended illness with a complication of troubles.

Loving hands ministered to her and cared for her with a tender devotion and everything possible was done to allay her sufferings and restore her to health but the heavenly Father saw fit to call her to her eternal home.

Funeral services, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. I. Dool, will be held this afternoon at two o'clock at the First Presbyterian church in this city, after which interment will take place in the Chariton cemetery. Her son, Bernard Milnes, arrived here Monday morning from Los Angeles, California, and with her husband and other children was with her during her last hours.

Carrie Ellen Beswick, youngest child of Richard and Hannah Beswick, was born near Morrison, Whiteside county, Illinois, on August 24, 1861. In the days of her youth and young womanhood she attended the Morrison high school, taking the regular course, and afterward specializing in music.

On December 28, 1882, she was united in marriage to Thomas H. Milnes, who survives her. To them three children were born, Earl B. and Paul E., of Chariton, Iowa, and Bernard T. Milnes, of Los Angeles, California.

Twenty-five years ago the family moved from Whiteside county, Illinois, to Lucas county, Iowa, settling on the farm near Chariton where they have since resided.

At the age of twenty-three she united with the Presbyterian church of Morrison under the pastorate of Rev. J. W. Skinner, D.D., and on coming to Iowa transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of this city. She was active in the work of the church as long as health and strength permitted, having an interesting and enthusiastic class of young men.

She was a good woman, wife and mother, adorning her profession with the ornaments of Christian life and noble character.

Besides the immediate family she is survived by a number of other relatives and a host of friends, to whom her demise comes as a personal loss. The sympathy of the entire community will be extended to the bereaved ones.
