William Jay Garnett, a son of Ruben and Agnes Huey Garnett was born October 27,1876m near St. Mary's, Hancock County, Illinois. He went to meet his heavenly father November 11, 1958, at the age of 82 years and 14 days.
On October 18, 1905, he was married to Ida Butler. To this union 5 children were born. Two infant children preceded him in death, also a son, Joseph, May 10, 1945. On October 26, 1947, Mrs. Garnett passed away.

Mr. Garnett established his home on a farm north of Luray where he and Mrs. Garnett lived until he retired. They then moved to Keokuk, Iowa, where they made a home until after Mrs. Garnett's death. Mr. Garnett then went to the home of his son, Charles where he lived until he became ill and had to be hospitalized.

In early life he joined the Baptist Church to which he remained faithful until his death.

Surviving Mr. Garnett are two sons, Wilbur of Luray, Missouri and Charles of Nauvoo, Illinois; two grandsons, Tony Jay and Charles Ray of Luray, Missouri; two daughters-in-law, Izean (Mrs. Wilbur Garnett) and Donna (Mrs. Charles Garnett); also several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garnett was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor, and a person interested in the affairs of the community he lived in. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 13m from the Luray Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Cleeton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Russell O'Dell.

Vocalists Creva Gutting and Stella Hawkins were accompanied by Ruby Selway, organist.

Pallbearers were Roy Harris, Everett French, Morris O'Brien, Frank Philp, Carl Sisson, and Elmer Dorsey.

Interment was in the Combs Cemetery at Luray.
