Howard Kurtz peacefully passed away on Jan. 18, 2022, at the age of 98 and a half. He was a lifelong Nappanee resident and married June George in 1945, with whom he had a 75-year marriage. He was born on July 23, 1923.
In his early years, Howard farmed, then worked at DW Greene Pontiac, and later retired from the Elkhart County Highway Department. He was an avid Cubs fan since childhood, recalling the good times going to Chicago to watch the games in the '30s and '40s. He also enjoyed fishing, motorcycle riding, and especially time with his grand and great-grandchildren. He stayed very active all through his 90s. He will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving is a daughter, Kay (Steve) Hoopes; grandson, Eric Hoopes; and great-grandchildren, Dillan, Kaylin and Lennon Hoopes. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2020; a sister, Deloris Arnott; a brother, William Kurtz; and beloved dog, Penny.
