He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith. He earned a business degree from Texas Tech university in 1961. After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, he moved to Fort Smith in 1964. He was a retired ABF Director. Throughout his life, Jerry was an avid photographer and an accomplished musician on the guitar, piano, and drums. He also had a talent for stonework in landscaping, and left a legacy through his extensive writing about his life and the lives of his family. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavors; and he was involved in local performing arts and served as a Boy Scout Leader.
