Claude Cassler, 69, passed away peacefully at his son's home surrounded by family, on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Claude was born in rural Redfield, IA on February 11, 1941 to Clarence Sr. and Mina Cassler. He attended Redfield schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Coral Sea during the Vietnam War. He retired from Continental Western after forty years where he was a Stationary Engineer.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Beverly Cassler; their beloved dog, Kizzy; his parents; sister, Sonya Atkins; and infant son, David.

He leaves to mourn three children: Michael (Barb) Cassler of Altoona, Theresa Cassler of Altoona, and Heidi (David) Scuffham of Peoria, IL; six grandchildren: Dustin, Zach, Elizabeth, Abby, Tessa, and Henry; two brothers-in-law, Richard Sorensen of Adel and Dennis (Sally) Sorensen of Des Moines and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines with funeral services on Tuesday at Redfield Christian Church at 11 a.m. in Redfield, IA with burial at East Linn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Redfield Christian Church in loving memory of Claude.
