American architect and director of the American Academy in Rome. Aldrich was considered among the foremost American architects of the first decades of the 20th century, designing some of the most famous Beaux Arts buildings in New York in that era. Italy awarded him the Order of the Crown of Italy for his service as a member of the American Red Cross Commission from 1917 to 1919. He served as director of the American Academy in Rome from 1935 to his death in 1940.
