Mr. Bale was born in Old Salem, a son of Jacob and America A. Bale. He married Dora Miller at Mason City in 1884 and at one time lived in Petersburg. For the last forty-three years he has been a resident of Springfield.

Horace Bale and his wife Marietta Dora Bale have their names inscribed on the front of the Bales stone; their son Horace Vern and his wife June's names are inscribed on the back of the stone. The inscriptions are very light.
