========================
Robert and Mary Turner settled on land they could not register on Muddy Creek in Rowan County, North Carolina, British North America. Today that land is in Archdale, Randolph County. At the time the Turner's settled, the land was in the Granville District and after the Earl of Granville's death in 1763 settlers were unable to obtain clear title to their land.

During the Revolutionary War, Robert was a Loyalist. He participated in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge near Wilmington, North Carolina on 27 Feb. 1776. He served as a Capt. under McDonald. He was captured and because he was an officer he was held as a prisoner of war and sent to Halifax, North Carolina. This was before the colonies had declared independence. In a list of Prisoners, dated 5 April 1776, the name of Robert Turner appears.
He was sent to Sharpsburg, Maryland on or before 29 April 1776. It is believed that he escaped and may have served again in New York. It appears that he never returned to his family.

* His death date and place are unknown.
