RED HOUSE-Bessie Honaker Harmon, 99, of Red House, died Dec. 31, 1999 in Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a long illness. She was a former schoolteacher and a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Red House.
Surviving: daughters, Frances Arthur of Red House, Ruth Allen of Hurricane, Mary Catherine Rollyson of Swansboro, N.C.; son, Stephen "Bill" of Red House; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Michael Hanna officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Her husband Stephen had arteriosclerosis for years before his death.

Bessie was raised by her grandparents, Charles and Sylvester Honaker, after her mother died.
She remembers when she was a girl living with her grandparnts in Red House, WV. She and her brother Harvey, would go up on the hilll where the Green farm was and would drive their Grandma Honaker 's cow home from the pasture there. She said the Greens were always so kind to them.
She remembers the "times when Grandma Honaker and her brother Harvey and I would walk the three miles to Bertha and T. R.'s farm on Buffa lo Creek". They would start out in the morning after leaving Grandpa Honaker's dinner ready for him and spent the day visiting with Aunt Bertha and family. Bessie also remembers that Aunt Bertha made the best fried chicken and "we sure did eat lots of her fried chicken."
