Joyce Othel (Hobbs) Balentine passed away at UTMB hospital in Galeveston after a brief illness.
Mrs. Balentine was born in Linden, TX to Lessie and Lloyd Hobbs.
Joyce was retired from the Galveston County Health District, where she was a dedicated employee for many years. She mad many lasting friends with her co-workers as well as clients. She was a previous owner of Pleasure Isle Bait Camp and A-1 Auto Parts. She loved the personal contacts she made over the years with fellow Galvestonians. She was deeply passionate about her family and her faith. She enjoyed reading and laughing and kept up with school functions and local politics. She had a wonderful way with words.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother when she was only 9 years old and later by her father. Joyce was then raised by her aunt, Cletta Surratt, who she dearly loved and her aunt Viola Surratt. Recently she lost her beloved sister, Martha Tolbert, with who she shared a close relationship. Her baby granddaughter Hannah Tucker and grandson, Justin Tucker also preceded her in death.

Survivors: Husband of 40 years, Jessie William Balentine; devoted daughter, Robin Farnsworth Tucker Everrett; sons, James Wayne Farnsworth, and JOhn David Balentine, who lost their "best budd", and Jay William Balentine, 'her rock", daughter-in-law Dotsy Matthews Balentine; son-in-law Eddie Everett. Granddaughters, Wehtahnah Tucker, Ashley Balentine, and Lauren Anne Balentine.
Her presence enriched the lives of all those who knew her well.
