Child of E. Garland Abbott and Nancy (Terrell) Abbott.

Enlisted in the Confederate Army on 3-1-1862. Serrved in Company F, Pvt., 28th Infantry Regiment, VA (remembered as the bloody 28th), Pickett's Division of the army of Northern Virginia, organized in 1861 at Forest Depot, and was the last of the three to die. Hospitalized on 5-15-1862 (sick). Returned on 6-15-1862. Sick at home on July 15, 1862. Returned on 8-15-1862. Absent, sick on 1-15-1863. Returned on 8-15-1863. Wounded on May 31, 1864 at Cold Harbor, VA and never returned to duty. He lost a finger and part of his hand.

Dabney Abbott died Thursday night in his seventy-first year of his life, at the home of his son, E.G. Abbott after a long and useful life, honored and esteemed by all who knew him. He was a native of Bedford County where he has spent all of his life. His residence was near Perrowville in the neighborhood of Forest, where he had engaged in farming. Last autumn, by reason of declining health, he and his wife came here to make their home with their son, E.G. Abbott. His death, which was sudden, was due to congestion of the lungs. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church and a devoted christian. He is survived by his wife, who is Mrs. S.J. Marsh of Campbell County and nine children, Messrs. E.G., W.D., J.J., W.B., T.A. Abbott of this county, N.C. Abbott of Dover, DE, Mrs. E. Lanford, Mrs. Julia Leftwich, Mrs. Blanche Hawkins and Mrs. Ada Saunders. The funeral services took place Saturday morning from the residence, conducted by Rev. N. Williams, of the Methodist church. The interment being in Longwood. The pallbearers were H.W. Garrett, Dr. C.A. Board, G.A. Miller, John W. Johnson, John M. Smith, J.F. Bondurant.
