On Monday afternoon while Oliver Ballard was making a friendly call at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lewis, he fell over and died before help could be called. Mr. Ballard was a Civil War Veteran. He made his home at the state soldiers home. About six weeks ago he came to visit his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Davis. He was 77 years of age. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Stevens at the home of Mrs. Davis. The body was shipped to Brownville, his former home for burial. The Legion Post of Occonto acted as pall bearers and escorted the remains to the depot, as a guard of honor.

OLIVER JEREMIAH BALLARD
Oliver Jeremiah Ballard, was born in Carroll County, Indiana, March 7, 1846 and died at Oconto, Nebraska, November 13, 1922 aged 76 yeas, 8 months, and 6 days. On October 1st, 1863 he enlisted in Captain Samuel Greer's Company I, 15th Kansas Calvary Volunteers and was honorable discharged from services at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, October 18, 1865.
He was married to Rachel Thompson at Falls City, Nebraska, December 31, 1870. To this union were born 5 children, Maud, Albert, H., Minnie, Susie, and Jesse Lee. Those left to mourn his departure are; Mrs. Maude Davis of Oconto, Nebraska, Mr. Albert H. Ballard of Nemaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Minnie Schubert of Hamburg, Iowa; Jessie Lee Ballard of Branson, Colorado; Susie, having died in infancy.
Th deceased was united with the Christian Church on September 11, 1894. While residing near Nemaha, his beloved wife was called to eternal reward, May 29, 1906. At the time of his death he was making his home with his youngest son, Jesse Ballard, at Branson Colorado. The remains were taken to Brownlee, Nebraska be laid beside his wife.
