Lucy was born, raised, married and had her family of 10 children in Derbyshire, England. She was 17 years of age when her first child was born and 40 years when the tenth child was born.

At age 32 she was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 20 May 1878--just two months after baby Lucy died. William (a potter by trade), however, was never interested in the Church. Lucy gradually sent her children to Salt Lake City. Elizabeth arrived in New York on 19 Jul 1887 aboard the ship Ludgate Hill and Lucy arrived on 24 Aug 1888 aboard the ship Wisconsin with Albert Moroni (age 5) and Laura (age 2). William never reunited with his family in America, dying in Brampton, Derbyshire, England on 11 April 1902. Uncorroborated family verbal history relates that William and/or Henry may have returned to England for a last visit with their father and that they corresponded.

The task of getting all her children to Salt Lake City and providing for them must have been a tremendous strain on her, because Lucy was a mere 45 years old when she died.

Seven of her children (Elizabeth, Ann, Henry, William, Florence, Albert & Laura) are buried nearby in the Salt Lake City Cemetery; two (May & Ada) are buried in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park; and Lucy in England.
