George W. Clutter was just 18, and living in Fairfield, Jefferson Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. M of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Feb 8, 1864. He was mustered into federal service on the same day. He mustered out of the service with the rest of his company on Aug 8, 1865, in Atlanta.
