Death of Jens Blaalid

Last Saturday occured the funeral of Jens Blaalid, who passed away Thursday, May 31, death resulting from diabetes. The deceased was an industrious and honest young man, 26 years, one month and 27 days of age. He was the eldest son of Peter Blaalid of West Newton and has always lived at the present home, where he was born. The circumstances surrounding his death are indeed sad. On June 9th, he was to have been married to Miss Maggie Dahlen, an estimable young lady of Severance, who is well and most favorably known, and has a large circle of friends in this vicinity. Several weeks ago she arrived from Minneapolis, where she had spent the winter and preparations for the wedding were nearly progressing, when the groom-to-be was suddenly taken ill. He requested that all preparations continue not realizing that he was so soon to pass away. The best of medical aid and attention was given him, but in spite of all that human hands could do, his condition gradually grew worse and he died four days after he was taken ill.

The deceased leaves a father, four brothers, namely, Olof, Peter, Carl and Justice, one sister, Mrs. Axel Ostrem, and a large number of friends to mourn his departure.

The remains were laid at rest in the Clear Lake Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, beside those of his mother, two brothers and two sisters, who have proceeded him to the Great Beyond. Rev Rhongele officiated.

The pall bearers were Victor Johnson, G.W. Nelson, Martin Carlson, Ole and John Brunsberg, and Ole Austad. A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral, which demonstrated the esteem in which the deceased was held.

The bereaved have the sincere sympathy of the community.
