GEORGE D. BENNETT, CARPENTER, EXPIRES:
George D. "Heck" Bennett, age sixty eight, residing in the Honeytown vicinity of
R4, died this morning at Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis, where he had been
receiving treatment. Death an followed illness of several years' duration with
a complication of diseases.
Mr. Bennett was Born June 16th, 1875 in Mason County, WV, the son of Creighton
and Johanna Kimberling Bennett, both deceased. He came to Jackson County in
1892 and was married in Hamilton Township on February 20th, 1898 to Myrtle
Seabrooks, who survives.
Mr. Bennett was an active and faithful member of the Honeytown Church where he
was an elder, a position he held for many years. He had been a member of the
church since 1893. He also was a member of Washington Lodge No. 13, Free &
Accepted Masons, at Brownstown, and was a well-known carpenter and contractor by
occupation, working throughout much of Jackson County.
Besides the widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lenore Jenkins and Mrs.
Grace Parsons, both of Indianapolis. Four brothers, Ed Bennett, of West
Virginia; Harley Bennett, of Chillicothe, Ohio; Charles Bennett of Tavares,
Florida, and Ray Bennett of Peru, Indiana; three sisters Mrs. Cora Gray, Mrs.
Elizabeth Freeman, and Mrs. Bessie Bost, all of Chillicothe, and four
grandchildren who survive. An infant daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock from the Honeytown Christian
Church followed by burial in the Robertson Cemetery.
Friends may call at the home west of Cortland after 3 o'clock Saturday
afternoon.
