Margaret Nelson was born February 15, 1887 to James W. and Mary A. (Rose) Tanner at Pleasant Hill, Nebraska. Death came to her at the Rock County Hospital at Bassett on February 8, 1972 at the age of 85 years.
Aunt Meg, as she was affectionately known to her nieces and nephews, spent her early years and attended school at Pleasant Hill. As a young woman she came to Springview and spent several active and productive years assisting in the office of the Keya Paha County Clerk.
On June 11, 1913, she was united in marriage to John Verner Nelson. To this union two sons, Everett and Norman, were born. They continue to operate the ranch. During the first year of their marriage, Verner built the house which was to be their home for nearly fifty years. Their golden wedding anniversary was denied them by three months with Verner's death on March 24, 1963.
Margaret was baptized and received into the membership of the Methodist Church more than 50 years ago and received a 50-year membership pin on May 7, 1967. She and her husband were active and loyal members of the faith. Margaret was a memeber of the older organization known as the Methodist Ladies Aid.
Margaret led a fruitful life, enjoying her home and family, her garden and flowers. Her primary interest was her grandchildren who returned her love. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers and three sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Everett and his wife, Shirley and Norman and his wife, Marilyn; her grandchildren, Ceile of Omaha, Paul, Randy, Peggy Rick, Scott, and Tracy all of Springview; her great grandchildren, Kimmy Sue, Shawn and Kayla; other relatives and many friends.
