By the age of 18, William was residing in Astoria, Long Island, New York where he had registered in the US Civil War Registration of Able-Bodied men on July 1st, 1863. Early the next year, he married Ema Amelia Bird on May 14, 1864. She presented him with a son, Harry Bird Muchmore, in March of 1865, but Emma died one month later
William studied Pharmaceuticals and soon was employed as a druggist in Astoria. He married Carrie Lorton Van Alst in November of 1866. A son, William Kitchel Muchmore, was born to them in September of 1867. Carrie died two years later.
In 1870, William met Emma Parmelia Fairbanks of Keene, New Hampshire. The couple soon married on the 12th of October that same year.
William Fletcher Muchmore continued to work as a pharmacist, often attending various Pharmaceutical conventions in and around New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. He owned and operated his own Pharmacy on Long Island. Newspaper accounts tell us that his store had been burglarized twice - once in 1884 and again in 1898.
William Fletcher Muchmore died at the age of 59 in Monmouth, Morris County New Jersey on the 25th of April in 1905.
His third wife Emma Pamela Fairbanks, was listed on his tomb stone, while Emma Amerlia Bird and Carrie Lorton Van Alst, appear on his son's Stone.
