Flossie Mae Nall Stephenson, daughter of John and Mary E. Black Nall, was born May 25, 1897 in Lewis County, Missouri. The Nall family was one of the first families to homestead in Lewis County, building a sod block house in 1832 for protection from the elements. From this original land grant, one acre was set aside for a cemetery with Flossie's mother being the last peson to have been buried there in 1951. This cemetery is being maintained by a trust originated by Flossie for time immortal. On April 18, 1917, she married Marion Blackburn Stephenson. Together, the rode in Marion's horse-drawn buggy to Ewing where they took the train to Hannibal for their wedding. In the years that followed, they bought a farm, establishing themselves as an integral part of the farming community. Flossie was a devoted, hard-working farm wife and mother of their two sons. She enjoyed her family, her friends, and her needlework, having examples of her tatting, crochet, embrodiery and quilting for her family to treasure. A life-long resident of Lewis County, the Ten Mile Baptist Church was the center of social and religious life for both Flossie and Marion. As children, they were both baptized on September 20, 1912, in one of the largest classes to have been baptized at one time by the church. Flossie was about 15 years old at the time, making her a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church for approximately 82 years. Flossie Stephenson died Wednesday, November 9, 1994 at 11:30 a.m. while a resident of the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.
